United States: Alexander Smirnov, the ex-FBI informant, will plead guilty to one charge of conspiring to prepare and aid in making a false record in an investigation matter by the federal government. It occurs after his arrest early this year which would lead to a trial if pursued, as reported by Reuters.

Hunter Biden Financial Affairs May Involve Money Laundering

Smirnov had made allegations related to Hunter Biden about his connections with Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian based energy firm. He said that the Burisma executives told him that Hunter Biden was hired to address “various issues.” Moreover, Smirnov accused Burisma of bribing Joe Biden and Hunter Biden in the sum of $5m during Joe Biden’s vice presidency.

Misinformation Presence and GOP Actions

They were the main focus of the House of Representatives under the Republican party in their first attempt at impeachment of President Joe Biden. These misrepresentations occurred during FBI interviews; The false details included alleged Burisma meetings with company executives in 2015 or 2016.

New Charges File in Tax Evasion

Under the terms of the plea bargain, Smirnov will also plead guilty to three counts of tax evasion for non-declaration of more than $2.1 million of income for the years between 2020 to 2022, as reported by Reuters.

Potential Sentencing

According to US sentencing guidelines, Smirnov can get a prison term between 48 to 72 months.
