House Republicans Accuse Biden of Influence-Peddling in New Report
Future of Biden’s impeachment unclear as House Republicans consider their next move amidst backlash and an upcoming election.

United States – Republicans in the U. S. House of Representatives released a report on Monday saying that Democratic President Joe Biden has committed impeachable offenses, but it was not immediately clear whether the party would seek a vote after an investigation that the White House has persistently called partisan.
House Republicans Publish 291-Page Report
A 291-page report by three House committees claimed that Biden and his family members engaged in influence-peddling to gain personal benefits through overseas business ventures starting from 2014 as the vice president, as reported by Reuters.
“The committees present this information to the House of Representatives for its evaluation and consideration of appropriate next steps,” the report said.
Uncertain Future of Impeachment Vote
It was unclear if Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson would call for an impeachment vote on Biden ahead of the November 5 poll, where incumbent Republican Donald Trump is in a delicate contest with Vice President Kamala Harris.
For such a measure to work, even the Republican-controlled House would not help expel Biden as he would need to be convicted by a Senate which is 51-49 majority controlled by his Democratic party. Biden, who not only pulled out his bid to run for the presidency again in the next election, is set to vacate the presidency on January 20, 2021.
Democratic Criticism and Historical Context
The Democrats have criticized the push as vindictiveness on Trump, who was impeached twice by the House under Democrats and had the Senate bail him out each time. The first impeachment accused Trump of trying to convince Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to provide information to ‘damage’ Biden in exchange for financial support from the U.S.
In April, a House impeachment against Biden’s top border official, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, was condemned swiftly by the Senate.
Johnson, in his statement, expressed appreciation for the work done by the committees’ adding that House Republicans want all Americans to read the report.
The House investigators argue that Biden acted in a bid to enrich business associates of his son, Hunter Biden, from Ukraine, China, Russia, and other countries.
Hunter Biden’s Legal Troubles
Hunter Biden stands accused of purchasing a gun after dishonesty concerning his drug addiction and is pending trial for tax fraud, one of the counts being that he received a commission from a Romanian contractor aimed at swinging certain authoritative structures in the United States in a criminal case in Romania, as reported by Reuters.
The impeachment inquiry, which lawmakers officially started back in December and has been conducted by the House Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways & Means committees, has been disparaged by the members of both parties for the absence of tangible proof of misconduct on the part of Biden.
