Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco stated that he expected his department to prevent an assassination attempt and asserted that was the case, although he admitted that was conjecture. The suspect was released on bail on Saturday this was evidenced by the jail records. A federal official stated on Sunday that there was a federal probe, as reported by Reuters.
The suspect, a 49-year-old man who was identified as Miller of Las Vegas, was detained without having a shoot out with the law enforcers; he was spotted driving a black SUV at 5 pm on Saturday when sheriff’s deputies arrested him, the sheriff’s department released. Trump was not on stage yet.
Possible Assassination Prevention
Police blotter reveals that Miller was released on a $5,000 bond Saturday following his arrest for possession of a loaded firearm and high-capacity magazine, both of which are misdemeanor in nature. He could not be contacted for his comments on the day the story was published, Sunday.
“The occurrence did not concern the safety of ex-president Donald Trump and other participants of the meeting,” the sheriff’s office commented on the situation in the press release.
No Immediate Threat to Trump’s Safety
The office of the U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles also stated this on its website on Sunday, quoting the U.S. Secret Service as saying Trump was okay. The statement also noted that no federal arrest had been made, but an investigation was in progress.
Previous Assassination Attempts
Trump was lucky to escape an assassination attempt in July in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a gunman fired a shot at him that barely missed his ear. In September, another man was arrested for an attempt at the assassination of Trump when the Secret Service found him concealing himself with a rifle near Trump’s Palm Beach golf course.
He pleaded not guilty. Those attempts also served as a contributing factor towards an increase in inquiries concerning the measures of protection and safety of the Secret Service.
